This is NOT Sunburn








However, it is due to the chronic effects of sun on this patient. This is MOST likely squamous cell carcinoma. 
The cat is an outdoor/barn kitty so has a much higher exposure to the sun. This can happen to an indoor-only cat that spends a lot of time in sunlit windows though too. While it's more common in white cats, it can happen to other cats, especially if their ears are white.  


The cat would need to have that ear amputated but there is a good chance it would return. This is a very aggressive and locally invasive cancer. This cat also had some suspicious changes on the other ear too.
