The No Kill Lehigh Valley came in 10th in voting and thus, is getting a $50,000 grant from Pepsi. The top 10 causes won!
Yeah!!!!
Here's an excerpt from those involved:
We did it! I know a lot of you went to bed thinking it was all over - so did I. But when the votes were tabulated, we were #10!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who faithfully voted everyday and got their friends, family and the guy nextdoor to vote too. Thank you to everyone who sent words of encouragement and jokes and especially to those who said just keep going. Thank you to those who contacted the media and schools, and groups of all kinds and sat in public places with lap tops gathering votes. Special thank you to some very special people - Ramona, Janet, Jenn, Betty, Ron, Noreen, Carol, Johanna and others that I can't think of because I'm still kind of in shock. I have already received the finalist package from Pepsi. The paperwork needs to be back to them by Feb. 14. If all is in order, they will release the first $25k in2 weeks from that date. The next $25k will be released in 6 months.
Please know that this money will all go to direct animal care except for the amount written into the grant to go for publicity - it's a challenge to reach the people who need to know about this and we have to spend some money to do that. In the next couple of weeks, we will be meeting with the heads of animal welfare groups in our tri county area (Lehigh, Northampton and Monroe) to plan an effective strategy to use this money for the most good and the most impact. It has been a roller coaster ride and the most stress I've ever had to deal with. As Viktor Frankl, who experienced a lot more stress, said, "That which is to give light must endure burning." I think it's safe to say that many of us are burned out, but it was worth it. Thank you all and stay tuned for more information on our plans. But - no more daily reminders. Yippie!!!!
